1 This year, Africa's best national football teams played the 33rd edition of AFCON (Africa Cup Of 2 Nations) in Cameroon. From the beginning, the tournament faced a number of challenges. The 3 biggest challenge was the Coronavirus pandemic, which caused the competition to be delayed. It 4 was supposed to be held in 2021, but finally took place in 2022. For people across Africa, AFCON is 5 a time of great excitement and cultural exchange. Teams from 24 African countries competed in the 6 contest, which is passionately followed on TV, even in countries that don't participate.

7 Senegal and Egypt were the two finalists. Egypt had won the tournament seven times before this 8 edition while Senegal had reached the finals twice, but had never won. The match promised a tough 9 duel between two world-famous players, Salah and Mané. When they are not playing for their 10 national teams, both men play for Liverpool FC in England.

11 The final turned out to be a tense game that remained tied 0-0 despite the best efforts of both 12 teams. Mané missed a penalty shot four minutes after the beginning of the game. Both sides 13 created chances to score, but in vain. The score stayed stuck at 0-0 after extra time. That sent the 14 game into a penalty shootout, with the teams taking turns shooting five penalties each. After each 15 team had shot four penalties, Senegal led 3-2. Then Mané booted in the final penalty shot, making it 16 4-2. Senegal won the contest for the first time, defeating Egypt on penalties.
